Shibram Chakraborty was a finest Bengali author, who was popular for mixing humor in literature. He was born in Kolkata in 1903 and belonged to a royal family of Malda. During pre-independence era he was greatly involved in the Swadeshi movement, which sowed the seed of free thought in him. He entered the world of literature as a poet and wrote his first book of poems named ‘Manush’. He used to write humorous stories in newspapers like ‘Ananda Bazar Patrika’, ‘Basumati’, and ‘Desh’. This helped him to trigger the sense of humor of the readers and he started drawing attention. His whole life was full of witty, which was also portrayed in his novels. His famous works are ‘Bari Theke Paliye’, ‘Debotar Jonmo’, ‘The Merry Adventures of Harshabardhan and Gobardhan’, ‘Bhalobasha Prithibi Ishwar’, ‘Jakhan Tara Katha Bolbe’ etc. In his last years he faced serious financial hardship and people hardly knew about his situation. Ultimately he died of 1980 in Kolkata.
